New newborn photographers often lack confidence and aren’t sure whether they are on the right track. Even more experienced newborn photographers sometimes make these photographer mistakes!

We run through the top 8 mistakes that you can make as a new newborn photographer, and I will give you some advice on how to avoid them. Keeping these tips in mind will help you gain confidence when going into your next newborn session, and help you deliver those gorgeous images you’ve always dreamed of.

Above all, be kind to yourself in your learning journey. We all start at the beginning! Don’t compare yourself to photographers with years of experience when you’re just starting out – your only measure for growth should be how much you’ve improved since YOU started!

  4. My biggest struggle is getting the shot all in the lens. I have a 50mm, and I feel it should be sufficient, but maybe I need another lens. New to this, so don’t want to go spend tons of money on a 24-70mm… help!

    Thanks for this video and it really helps a lot. What about investing in specific camera for newborn fotography? Can I practice with my current camera, Canon 700D (not a full frame but a crop sensor)? If yes what lenses can I invest for this camera to practice? Tqvm!

  7. My first ten newborn shoots, I alotted for four hours a session, and I left the diaper ON. No naked newborns for me – life saver! Just be honest with your client before hand about no naked photos.

    I do mostly weddings but do newborns sometimes! My biggest struggle is when baby doesn't want to sleep. I've been trying to wrap them and that seems to help a bit! I also have the wrinkly backdrop issue sometime 🙁 It's hard to get it perfect! Also, lighting is hard. I want to get a light that doesn't flash!
